How long to learn how to play the piano?
So I decided I would love to learn how to play the piano.

I played the flute for about 4 months (having never played an instrument before) and my teacher said I was really good for being a beginner. So I’m hoping that I would learn piano easier too.

How long do you think it would take to learn how to play. Not amazingly, but decent enough??

    I’m 17 btw. :)

    Thanks!

It is not hard to play piano – however, it is not easy to play piano well.
It takes practice and understanding of chords and harmony. Just like a language or any sport, a person knows how to play does not necessarily play well.
There are two ways of playing piano:
    1. Play by reading music – sight read music takes lots of practice. It will help you play from sheet music if you know how to read http://www.sightreadingtips.com
    2. Play by ear/improvise – Usually this is a faster route and one can play by using chords.
A good pianist should possess both skills.
