    whole tones and are …
whole tones and are like walking up steps. Each step is a tone. If there was a grove half way between steps, That would be a half or semi tone. It is the tone halfway between two whole tones. This is how western music is made to distinguish how far one note is from another. On the piano, from one key to another, including black keys, are half tones. So when two white keys are side by side with a black key between they are a whole step. Without the black key they are a half tone apart.

    It doesn’t signify …
It doesn’t signify anything in particular. It’s just a rule that when you write music, if it’s above the middle line, you write the note’s stem pointing down. Anything below that is drawn with the stem pointing up.

    Tone is a …
Tone is a measurement of pitch/sound. You use them to say how different in pitch one note is from another. For instance you can’t just say that D is a tone, you say that D is a tone away from C.

    it doesnt “mean” …
it doesnt “mean” anything, when the note is on or above the middle line you tend to write with the stem pointing down

  • motmot1408 says:

    what does it mean …
what does it mean when the line from the note is upward or down?

  • FortuneSeek3rz says:

    I think a semi tone …
I think a semi tone is where there is no black key between to the white keys. So an example would be from B to C. Then from C to D is a whole tone b/c you are skipping a black key.

    i just don’t get …
i just don’t get the tone, semitone, whole tune part. what is the difference between each? you’re only pressing one key at a time.. i thought that a tone was when 2 semi-tones were pressed together.
