    You say you’re not …
You say you’re not cheapening the music…. But saying that all of his music follows a set motive strategy is exactly what that ends up saying. Listen to space ships, his string quartets, or two pages. Also, in Metamorphosis 1, the bass is played at the same time as the right hand, not immediately before.

    you are a youtube …
you are a youtube shrink. thanks for reading me.

interesting you summarize my entire artistic background with just a few exchanges. You must be quite ’smart’.

but nevertheless (!), I like the fact you admitted to having an inferior knowledge abd taste. That says it all.

    LOL, you’ll never …
LOL, you’ll never be able to understand the true meaning of art and what it implies. You’ll always be limited to seeing art as a finite measurable deterministic mixture of formulas and labels. To you a good artist one that knows technique, not one that inspires people’s hearts and emotions. I feel for you man, you make the most rookie mistake of art students who never amount to anything more than big snobs.

    if Picasso could …
if Picasso could not paint well in the classical style, he would not have been Picasso, but someone else.

If stravinsky wasnt thorough in Bach and counterpoint, he would not have written the most amazing counterpoint in the opening movment of the Rite to depict birds in a forest.

I dont mind disdaining people with inferior taste. I love that feeling!

in anycase, so you accept you have inferior taste? good.

  • irodrigo says:

    You failed to …
You failed to understand my example. If Picasso could NOT paint well in the classical style, that would NOT make him a mediocre painter.

I don’t think Phillip Glass has ever said he’s a classical composer. You’re the one labeling things here to fit your judgements.

In any case, music, and art, is about more than labels. It’s a shame that you don’t understand such a simple concept.

Snob: Somebody who feels superior, who disdains people considered to have inferior knowledge or tastes.

    “Just play a nice …
“Just play a nice melody with the right hand”
Wouaw, that was that easy ! :D

Sorry, your improvisation is nice, but it never really sounds like Glass. It’s pretty much closer to Michael Nyman “piano lesson” in fact ;)

    You could analyze …
You could analyze every single musician based on your criteria. What i think differentiates all of them not the technical aspect, but the soul and the essence of a musician. This is the only difference between a musician and a performer. The soul and the essence, which is he same difference between a rock and a human being. Philip glass is a great composer of it’s own kind and a precursor to a new and fascinating movement in modern music and should not be analyzed that lightly.

    I would not say …
I would not say he’s unoriginal. He has become original. But he did develop a style that was never there over time.
It’s just a pity he has stuck with the same formula to this day.
